留学在外，学业固然重要，但最最重要的还是人身安全问题。在英国遇到紧急事件和情况怎么办？怎么报警？虽然在英国的大部分宝子都已经知道了如遇紧急情况，拨打999（等于国内的110、120、119），但似乎并不是很多人都知道101这个号码。101和999，其实功能差不多，但999比101遇到的情况要“更加紧急”。
官方给出的例子是建议大家可以在以下的情况下拨打101：
出门发现车被偷了（Yourcarhasbeenstolen）；
进家门发现家里东西被毁了（Yourpropertyhasbeendamaged）；
看见邻居在贩卖毒品（Yoususpectdruguseordealinginyourneighbourhood）；
看见路上交通大瘫痪（Roadconcession）；
向警方提供一些犯罪分子的线索（如小偷）；
向警方询问一些安全信息……
101接通后，会根据你的位置联系当地警方。其实101的作用就是为了缓解999的压力，为公众提供的又一个联系紧急部门、警察部门的通道。
但当遇到非常紧急的情况，还是要先拨打999，比如：
当街被抢（Youwererobbedoryourthingwasstolen）；
正在目击犯罪过程（Witnessingcrimescene）；
感觉自己正在被小偷跟踪（Beingfollowedbythief）；
感觉自己的安全正在受到威胁（Feellikeyoursafetyisbeingthreatened）；
家里着火了（Yourhouseisonfire）；
身边有需要急救的病人……
除了遇到紧急情况报警，遇到了生命危险之外，也免不了有需要急诊但没办法约到GP的时候。如果不危及生命、但仍急需医疗服务，或者你不确定是否该拨打999时，可以先拨打111，常见情况有：
你认为自己需要去医院
需要医疗指导来确定下一步应该怎么做
身边有人急需医疗救助（但并没有危及生命），但你不清楚该如何帮助
书面提醒
第一种就是书面提醒，不过书面提醒态度也要非常温和礼貌（毕竟在英国嘛）。你可以写信，写邮件或发短信。比如：“heyxxx,sorrytodisturbyouatthishouroftime,Iamtiredtoday,canyouturnthemusicdown/canyouguysquietdownalittlebitplease,thankyousomuch!Enjoyyournight!”就可以了。如果提醒屡次无效，那就采用后面两种办法！
联系房东和宿管
书面提醒人家还是不听不改。这个时候就得找到房东或者宿管请他们出面了。因为不管是住在什么样的宿舍或者房子，都是要签署合同的，还不是住不开心了我就搬家这么简单。咱们能忍一天两天几个星期，但也不能一忍就忍好几月呀！大家可以找到房东或宿管，好好沟通一下。
