9月25日，由西华师范大学和四川省林业和草原局（大熊猫国家公园四川省管理局）共建的大熊猫学院，在西华师范大学揭牌成立。

大熊猫学院将聚焦人才培养、科学研究、社会服务、文化传承、国际交流五大职能，着力培养大熊猫等珍稀动植物保护方面的高级专业人才，努力在生态环境保护、栖息地生态修复与管理、大熊猫国家公园建设与管理、大熊猫种群复壮与野化放归、大熊猫文化研究与传播等方面发挥重要作用。

·组织领导了全国第一次大熊猫野外调查研究；
·建立了世界上第一个大熊猫野外生态观察站——“五一棚”；
·促成了我国第一次野生动物保护国际合作；
·出版了世界历史上第一部全面探索大熊猫生态环境和习性的学术专著——《卧龙的大熊猫》。
Sincethe1970s,theuniversityhasbeendevotedtogiantpandaresearch,andhascreated"fourfirsts"inthisfield,accordingtotheuniversity'sPartychiefWangYuanjun.Theuniversityledthecountry'sfirstgiantpandafieldinvestigationandresearch,establishedtheworld'sfirstgiantpandafieldecologicalobservationstation,promotedChina'sfirstinternationalcooperationonwildlifeprotection,andpublishedtheworld'sfirstacademicmonographthatcomprehensivelyexplorestheecologicalenvironmentofgiantpandas.
西华师大生命科学学院院长廖文波介绍了大熊猫学院的建设情况和发展规划，“大熊猫学院是西华师大生命科学学院新设的二级学院。”
人才培养方面，以大熊猫保护研究人才队伍建设为核心，立足于为国家培养一批能在大熊猫国家公园、自然保护区等基层开展工作的本科、硕士专业人才。大熊猫学院首先将开设“国家公园建设与管理”专业，于2024年正式招收本科生，力争3年内获批省级一流专业。
师资方面，除了依托生命科学学院师资队伍外，还聘请中国大熊猫保护研究中心副主任李德生、成都大熊猫繁育研究基地副主任侯蓉、中国科学院成都生物研究所研究员江建平、中国科学院动物研究所研究员聂永刚等22名专家为大熊猫学院专家委员会成员。
