所选语录由英国苏格兰汉学家理雅各先生翻译。理雅各，英文名JamesLegge，詹姆斯·莱格，英国苏格兰汉学家，曾在香港主持英华书院，翻译多本中国古代著作。
《孟子》：老吾老，以及人之老；幼吾幼，以及人之幼。天下可运于掌。
《Mencius》：
Extendtherespectoftheagedinone'sfamilytothatofotherfamilies；extendtheloveoftheyoungonesinone'sfamilytothatofotherfamilies.Ifyoudidtheseabove,youcouldrulethekingdomasifyouwereturningitinthepalm.
《孟子》：故天将降大任于斯人也，必先苦其心志，劳其筋骨、饿其体肤，空乏其身，行拂乱其所为，所以动心忍性，曾益其所不能。

《孟子》：不失其身而能事其亲者，吾闻之矣；失其身而能事其亲者，吾未之闻也。
不丧失自己的品德操守而能侍奉其父母的人，我听说过；丧失了自己的品德操守还能侍奉他的父母的人，我没有听说过。
《Mencius》：ThosewhodonotlosetheirmoralintegrityareabletoservetheirparentsiswhatIhaveheard.ButIhaveneverheardthatthosewhohavelosttheirmoralintegritywhilestillwereservingtheirparents.
《孟子》：仁，人心也；义，人路也。
仁，是人心中才有的情感。义，是人生应当走的正路。
《Mencius》：Benevolenceisthefeelingthatamanhasinmind,andrightnessistherightpaththatamanshouldtake.
《孟子》：古之人，得志，泽加于民；不得志，修身见于世。
古代的人，得志，便把恩惠施于百姓；不得志，就会修养自身以显现于世。
《Mencius》：Whenthemenofantiquityachievedhisambition,hewouldbenefitthepeople;iftheydidnotachievedtheirambitions,theycultivatedtheirpersonalcharacter,andlettheirgreatvirtuesbeunfoldedbeforetheworld.
《孟子》：天下之本在国，国之本在家，家之本在身。

《孟子》：爱人不亲，反其仁；治人不治，反其智；礼人不答，反其敬。
爱护别人可是人家不亲近你，那就要反省自己的仁爱之心（是否有问题）；管理别人可是没有管理好，那就要反省自己的才智（智慧、知识等是否有问题）；待人以礼可是得不到别人相应的对待，那就要反省自己的恭敬之心（是否有问题）。
《Mencius》：Whenonelovesothers,butfailstoreceiveloveinreturn,oneshouldreflectonwhetheroneisreallyabenevolentman.Whenonefailstodirectotherstodiscipline,oneshouldreflectonwhetheroneknowstheproperwaytogovern.Whenonefailstogainrespectfromotherswhiletreatingotherswiththepropercourtesies,oneshouldreflectonwhetheroneissincereenough.
《孟子》：尊德乐义，则可以嚣嚣矣。
崇尚德，喜爱义，就可以自得其乐了。
《Mencius》：Honouringvirtueandbeingdelightinrightness，andyoumaybealwaysbeperfectlysatisfied.
《孟子》：我善养吾浩然之气……其为气也，至大至刚，以直养而无害，则塞于天地之间。
《Mencius》：Iamskillfulinnourishingmygreatspirit……Thegreatspiritcanbeexceedinglygreat，andexceedinglystrongandnourishedbyrectitudewithoutinjury，itfillsupallbetweenheavenandearth.
《孟子》：仁，人之安宅也；义，人之正路也。
仁是人安顿灵魂的精神家园，义是人生的正路。
《Mencius》：Benevolenceisthespiritualhomeforman'ssoul,andrightnessistherightpathforman'slife."
《孟子》：人之所不学而能者，其良能也；所不虑而知者，其良知也。
人不经过学习就会做善事的能力，叫作良能；不经过思考就知道是非善恶的见识，叫作良知。
《Mencius》：Theabilitypossessedbymenwithouthavingbeenacquiredbylearningisintuitiveability,andtheknowledgepossessedbythemwithouttheexerciseofthoughtisintuitiveknowledge.
《孟子》：事，孰为大？事亲为大。守，孰为大？守身为大。
生活里侍奉谁最重要？侍奉父母最重要。守护谁最重要？守护自身的善性最重要。
《Mencius》：Ofservices,whichisthegreatestTheserviceofparentsisthegreatest.Ofconservations,whichisthegreatestTheconservationofone'smoralintegrityisthegreatest.
