这是一个经典的“误解”表达，pet表示宠物，petname却不是宠物的名字，理解错了可是很搞笑，为啥呢？因为petname指人的昵称，和宠物名字属于平行世界了。
petname的英文解释是：aspecialnameyoucallsomeonewhoyoulikeverymuch。你给你非常喜欢的人起的一个特别的名字。
在urbandictionary上，对petname是这样解释的：
Generallyusedinintimaterelationshipsinplaceofnames.Thenamesareusuallythoughtofbasedonexperienceoftherelationship.
通常用在亲密关系中，代替原有的姓名，而昵称的选择则根据具体的关系来。
比如babe，sweetie，honey，sweetheart和dear也不是谁想叫就能叫的。

有些人特别不喜欢昵称，希望没人提及自己的昵称，因为这可能显得有失身份。
