中国的人口问题和环境问题几乎是同时被人们重视起来的。人们将中国人口数量过多作为环境恶化的根本原因，将人口与环境对立起来，使很多人认为，要想从根本上解决中国的环境问题，就应该努力地削减中国的人口。但是，我们可以举个简单的例子：中国的森林面积在逐年减少，沙漠面积在逐年扩大，空气和水体质量越来越差，如果我们单纯地与俄罗斯、加拿大、美国、澳大利亚等国家相比，是很容易得出“人口少则环境好”这样的结论的。然而如果我们与日本、新加坡这些国家相比，就只能承认我们在环保意识和环保工作方面的差距。所以，我们可以说人口数量不是根本问题！
