忧郁症机器人马文《银河系漫游指南》(2005)
第一个实实在在没精打采的机器人“瞧我，脑袋能装下整个行星。”你赋予一个机器人以个性，它就会出错。马文的情况就是这样。他是福特·长官和亚瑟·登特的好友，智商高出人类五万倍，对此，他明白得很。“我没让你们把我造出来，没人找我商量过这事，也没人顾及我的感受。”他是道格拉斯·亚当斯基于a.a.米尔恩笔下的小驴屹耳塑造出来的，与其说是忧郁，倒不如说是沮丧。“生活？别跟我谈什么生活。”

r2d2《星球大战》(1977)第一个被导演乔治·卢卡斯提名为其最喜爱演员的机器人这个小家伙比他那个故作矜持的黄铜色同伴c3po要有意思得多，他不会讲英语，但在《星球大战》人物谱中却是一个比大多数人类都要完美的角色。修理飞船，解救民众，传送重要讯息，协助炸毁“死星”。《芝麻街》中有他，《辛普森一家》中也有他，后来还“繁衍”出新一代能发出柔和颤音的小铁皮罐。
罗比罗伯特《惑星历险》(1956)第一个在电影中与人类明星一样出现在演员表上的机器人尽管身高7英尺7英寸，双手有如利爪，玻璃脑袋里的齿轮清晰可见，罗比仍然是银幕上第一个讨人喜欢的机器人。他有时像一个忠实男仆，有时像个小丑，有时又像一名将军；他可以“根据订单造出几十吨铅或者一袭紧身晚礼服”，并为此感到洋洋得意。他的原型是莎士比亚《暴风雨》中的精灵埃里厄尔，说了你也许不相信，他不但作为一个电影人物成绩斐然，而且做成玩具后也大受欢迎。
玛利亚《大都会》(1927)第一个扮作脱衣舞娘、后来被处以火刑的机器人银幕第一个超级机器人是个彻头彻尾的金属女人。弗里茨·朗导演的这部革新性电影，拍摄背景设定在一座充满未来色彩的城市，“劳动者”们在地下辛苦工作，“思想者”们则在地上过着养尊处优的生活。片中的机器人是仿照该片女主人公、喜欢谈情说爱的玛利亚制造出来的。它跑到劳工们中间煽风点火搞破坏，劳工们纷纷反叛雇主。
